MOTHER ProjectMaternal Opioid Treatment Human Experimental ResearchPregnant women addicted to opioids require special treatment. Substance dependence during pregnancy results frequently in withdrawal syndrome in the newborn. Research has shown that maintenance therapy with opioids during the pregnancy reduced the dangers for both mother and baby. The team of the addiction clinic has years of experience in the treatment of substance dependent pregnant women. In addition, we presently offer a special treatment program for pregnant patients as part of an international research project (NIH grant nr. RO1NIH GRANT: RO1 DA018417-01).
This study includes a prospective pharmacological comparison (double-blind, double-dummy) of two medications (methadone and buprenorphine) in their pharmacokinetic and dynamic aspects during pregnancy. The effects of these medications on the newborn babies are also evaluated. |
